Who needs Drug & Alcohol Testing?

Many workplaces can benefit, but it is essential for safety-critical roles. Any workplace where vehicles or heavy machinery are commonly used, or where employees regularly work at height, alone or in confined spaces, should be considering a testing programme.

Testing methods we use

Instant on-site testing gives immediate, same-day results with no waiting involved, ideal for routine and pre-employment testing.

Standalone lab analysis takes longer, but provides a more in-depth and reliable result. Both methods return a negative or non-negative result; a non-negative result is sent to a UKAS-accredited lab for further analysis.

When testing takes place

  • Pre-employment checks, before a new starter begins work
  • Randomised testing, for a cost-effective view across the whole team
  • Periodic testing, at regular intervals for safety-critical roles
  • For cause testing, following an accident or incident
Quick turnaround, excellent communication and a brilliant team that work really well together to deliver a prompt and professional service. Would highly recommend to anyone and small businesses in particular, as they are competitively priced whilst maintaining a quality professional standard.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if an employee fails their drug and alcohol test?
If an employee fails an instant workplace test, we send the sample for lab analysis. What happens next depends on your company policy. If it is prohibited by your policy, or the resulting impairment causes a significant health and safety risk, disciplinary action is usually the next step, and dismissal may be justified depending on the circumstances.
How long do drug and alcohol test results take to come back?
Instant on-site tests give same-day results. Standalone lab analysis typically takes 24 to 48 hours, depending on when the test is carried out. For example, a test on a Friday will return results the following Tuesday.
What do your workplace drug kits test for?
Our drug tests detect barbiturates, methadone, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids or THC, cocaine metabolites, opiates, amphetamine, phencyclidine, methamphetamines and ketamine.
Can an employee refuse a drug and alcohol test?
If an employee has signed a contract stating they must complete testing when asked, they cannot refuse. If no such agreement is in place, they may be within their rights to decline, which is why a clear, comprehensive drug and alcohol policy is essential.
